One of the most profound challenges we encounter in life is discovering a purpose that transcends ourselves. In today’s culture, we're often encouraged to "do what makes you happy." While there's value in personal joy, focusing solely on our own happiness can become limiting, even isolating. True fulfillment emerges when we see ourselves as part of a larger tapestry, allowing space for others and acknowledging something greater than our individual experiences.
The ocean has a unique way of putting this into perspective. When you're 200 miles from the nearest shore, surrounded by vast, unpredictable waters, it’s a humbling reminder of your small place in an expansive world. This experience can awaken a sense of belonging to a bigger picture—where we’re not the main focus, but we contribute to something grander.
My daughter Bella, a gifted artist, drew these houses some time back, each distinct and detailed. Together, her creations form a vibrant neighborhood, with each house contributing its own unique character. It’s a powerful metaphor: every element enriches the whole, creating something special that no single piece could achieve alone.
So, as you reflect on your journey, consider this: what’s the unique "flavor" you bring to the larger picture?
What role do you play in the broader canvas of your community, your work, or even the world around you?
